BEST OF

This is a blend of song titles from The Beatles.

The aim is to show that BEST OFs are not that innocent in the sense that they hide away some kind of message, which is encrypted in the disk and is then disclosed in our brains… The secret must be revealed. This is my first try. I’ve been doing an exhaustive work (but it didn’t take more than a couple of hours with some days in between and some bits of imagination), so I hope you all like the result in some way or other.

The reason why I chose the names of characters in what is presented as this kind of “free-play” is justified: I chose Sun King because it is usually associated with a strong, male character, and even if it is sometimes obscured by dark clouds, the character is still there, standing and still shedding light.

In the case of Pal Bulldog, he is, to begin with, a friend (Sun King’s closest friend). Besides, as the last name says it, he’s a bulldog– he’ll always stand up for his best friend in times of need and show his teeth to evil enemies that may stand in the way.

Next, we have the gloomy Prudence Moon. This character is the epitome of the oxymoron: her appearance (through what we get from the first name) might lead us to believe that this is a calm and discreet character. Moreover, the term Moon is usually associated with lovers and romanticism. But it is also darkness and cover. Well, I’ve decided to play with this clichéd conception of the Moon. Romanticism is OK, but let us unveil the real thing: romanticism is not love, and the Moon does not shine; on the contrary, it takes advantage of the light from the Sun. This parasite won’t last long.

And –last but not least– we meet the sweet Miss Lizzy Star. Unlike the Moon (and I do not want to get into any sort of comparison, because there is none), Stars have a light of their own. They brighten darkness, they are made of the same essence as the Sun, and they do not fight to be brighter. They just… “shine along.”
